Managing the Periodontally Compromised Patient
The introduction of orthodontic appliances to the dentition of an adult patient can put unusual stresses on the periodontium. This can result in rapid periodontal deterioration and can increase the likelihood of deep patient dissatisfaction.
PreViser periodontal risk and disease scores serve two very important purposes for the Orthodontist:
First, they accurately identify the objective periodontal status of a patient in terms of periodontal risk and severity. These scores can help you
determine whether orthodontic treatment can commence, or whether the
patient must be stabilized before treatment begins.
Second, these scores can alert you to the rapid changes in periodontal
status that can occur during orthodontic treatment.
